Ballinger leads Eagles to 11th-place finish in outdoor opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Sophomore
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) led the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team to an 11th-place finish in its outdoor opener this weekend at the Washington University Invitational.
Ballinger finished first in the 5,000 meters with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 17 minutes, 25.22 seconds.

As a team, the Screaming Eagles produced 21 points and five top-10 finishes. Junior
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana), who redshirted in cross country and indoor track, returned to USI's lineup with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters.
Freshman
Carmisha Leary (Indianapolis, Indiana) was sixth in the shot put with an outdoor school-record heave of 38 feet, while sophomores
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Indiana) and
Sarah Whiteman (Bloomington, Indiana) were seventh and 10th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters.
The Eagles return to action Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Gatorade Classic in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
