Eagles land five on All-GLVC track teams
Women's All-GLVC Team
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana landed five runners on the women's outdoor track and field All-GLVC teams as announced by the league office Monday.
Sophomore Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) and junior Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) earned first-team honors, while junior Sarah Baysden (Shelbyville, Indiana), freshman Allison Laird (Greenville, Indiana), and sophomore Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) were named to the second team for their performances at the GLVC Outdoor Championships.
Ballinger earned first-team honors by winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA II automatic qualifying time of 10 minutes, 57.15 seconds. She also was second in the 3,000 meters with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 10 minutes, 11.19 seconds.
Shafer earned first-team honors by finishing second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18 minutes, 29.73 seconds and seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 42.51 seconds.
Baysden earned second-team honors with her second-place finish in the 10,000 meters and sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters. Laird was third in the 10,000 meters, while Dixon was fourth in the 1,500 meters and fifth in the 800 meters.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished fourth at the GLVC Championships with 68 team points.
USI will send at least one runner to nationals as Ballinger has qualified to compete in the steeplechase. Dixon is on the bubble in the 1,500 meters and will have to wait for the final declarations later this week.
