Ballinger places 10th in steeplechase finals

Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) placed 10th in the 3000-meter steeplechase finals at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Walnut, California. The NCAA II Outdoor Championships are hosted at Mount San Antonio College.
Ballinger, who finished fourth during her preliminary race, ran the 3000-meter course in 10 minutes, 57.93 seconds. She finished 37.51 seconds off the pace by Winrose Karunde of Abiline Christian University, who set an NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship record with a time of 10 minutes, 20.42 seconds.
"Mary has been struggling with bronchitis the last two weeks and tonight the bottom just fell out," said USI Head Coach
Mike Hillyard. "She could not have run a step faster tonight."
