USI wins classic with near perfect finish

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team won the Stegemoller Classic in near perfect fashion Saturday evening at the USI Intramural Complex.
The Screaming Eagles won the meet with five of the top seven finishers, led by race winner junior
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana). Ballinger ran the 4k in a time of 14:20, 29 seconds ahead of the field. Unattached runner Julie Koenegstein was second with a time of 14:49, while USI's junior
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) was third at 14:57.
USI sophomore
Holly Bartelt (Huntingburg, Indiana), junior
Lacy Williams (Haubstadt, Indiana), and freshman
Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Indiana) rounded out the top five for the Eagles. Bartelt was fifth overall with a time of 15:03, while Williams was sixth with a time of 15:07 and Curtis was seventh with a time of 15:08.
Overall, the Eagle won the team championship with 18 points, 37 points better than Bellarmine University (53 points) and Southeast Missouri State University (69 points).
USI resumes action September 19 at the Indiana Intercollegiates, hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
