Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) was named the GLVC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week Wednesday afternoon. It marks the second time Ballinger has earned GLVC Runner of the Week honors in cross country.
Ballinger led the Screaming Eagles to a near perfect score at the Stegemoller Classic last weekend by finishing first with a 4k time of 14:20.00, nearly 30 seconds faster than that of the second-place finisher.
As a team, the Eagles had 10 of the top 15 finishers, including five in the top seven.
Ballinger picked up exactly where she left off from last season, where she earned All-America honors in both cross country and indoor track. She finished 17th at the NCAA II Cross Country Championships last fall and was second in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championships last winter.
USI returns to action September 19 when it takes part in the Indiana Intercollegiate in Bloomington, Indiana.
