Ballinger finishes eighth at Louisville;
Eagles' reserves win Blue competition

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Junior All-American
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) finished eighth out of 265 runners to lead the No. 11-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.
Ballinger finished the 5k race in 17 minutes, 27.46 seconds, a time that ranks her second all-time at USI.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished with 251 points in a 32-team field that featured 21 NCAA Division I teams.

Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) finished 47th to aide the Eagles' efforts, while sophomore
Holly Bartelt (Huntingburg, Indiana) was 62nd.
USI's reserves also had a standout day as the Eagles captured the title in the Blue race. Sophomore
Heather Beard (Westfield, Indiana) and junior
Lauren Crick (Evansville, Indiana) each had top-15 finishes to pace the Eagles', who finished with 106 points in the 27-team field.
The Eagles return to action October 18 when they travel across town to take part in the University of Evansville Invitational at the UE Cross Country Course. The GLVC Championships are October 25 in Rolla, Missouri.
