USI runners move up in national rankings,
Women receive highest mark in program's history
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—After dominating their respective GLVC Championships this past weekend, the University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country teams have made upward moves in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association Division II Top 25 Polls.
USI's women, who won their GLVC crown by 25 points over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, moved up one spot to sixth. The mark is the highest the Screaming Eagles have been ranked in the program's 20-year history.
Joining the Eagles from the GLVC was Wisconsin-Parkside, who moved up one spot to 19th after finishing second at the league meet last Saturday.
USI's men, who had 10 of the top 20 finishers en route to a 37-point win at the GLVC Championships, jumped two spots to 10th in the latest national poll. It is the highest ranking for the Eagles this season and the second straight year that they have received a top-10 mark.
Joining the Eagles from the GLVC was Northern Kentucky University and Drury University. Northern Kentucky held onto its 22nd ranking after finishing second at the GLVC meet, while Drury moved up two spots to 23rd after placing third at the conference meet.
Both the men and the women's squads will battle for a regional championship when they return to action November 8 to take part in the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships in Big Rapids, Michigan. Both squads remained second in their respective regional rankings.
