Ballinger leads Eagles in opener

CARBONDALE, Ill.—Junior All-American
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) finished first in the mile to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team in its indoor season-opener Saturday at the SASF Invitational.
Ballinger finished the race in an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of five minutes, 2.38 seconds, nearly seven ticks faster than fellow teammate
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky), who was second with a time of five minutes, 9.29 seconds.
In all, the Screaming Eagles had four of the top eight finishers and five of the top 11 in the mile. Junior
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) was sixth in the event, while fellow classmate
Lacy Williams (Haubstadt, Indiana) was eighth.

Freshman
Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Kentucky) ran the 3,000 meters in 10 minutes, 42.21 seconds to finish second in the event. She was one of six Eagles to post top-10 finishes Saturday.
The Eagles are slated to resume action January 23-24 at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.
