Ballinger breaks indoor 3,000-meter record

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Junior All-American
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) set a new school record in the indoor 3,000 meters Friday evening to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team at the Gladstein Invitational this weekend.
Ballinger finished fifth in the 3,000-meter invitational race with a time of nine minutes, 43.74 seconds, nearly 10 ticks faster than the previous record that Heather Cooksey set at last year's Indiana Relays.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles had three top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes.

Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Kentucky) had the team's top finish as she placed third in the open 3,000 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 39.35 seconds, while junior
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) was fourth and seventh, respectively, in the invitation portions of the mile and 800 meters.
USI returns to action next weekend when it competes at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana.
