HOUSTON, Texas—The University of Southern Indiana women's track team will enter the final day of the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in a tie for 13th place thanks to a strong performance by its distance medley relay team Friday night at the NCAA II Winter Sports Festival.
The Screaming Eagles finished fifth in the event with a time of 11 minutes, 56.95 seconds, a little more than one second back of fourth-place Clarion University. Senior Christy Dixon
(Owensboro, Kentucky) started the relay with an approximate time of three minutes, 38 seconds in the 1,200-meter leg of the event.
Junior Lauren Crick
(Evansville, Indiana) followed with a 61.7 second split in the 400-meter leg, while fellow classmate Lacy Williams
(Haubstadt, Indiana) ran the 800-meter leg in approximately two minutes, 21 seconds.
Junior Mary Ballinger
(Chesterton, Indiana) closed the race by running the mile leg in four minutes, 54 seconds.
All four runners earn All-America honors for their performances. It marks the first time in Crick's, Dixon's, and Williams' career that they have earned All-America status. It is the fourth time Ballinger has earned an All-America award.
Ballinger will go for a fifth All-America honor Saturday evening when she competes in the 5,000 meters at 5:35 (CDT). She was second in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA II Indoor Championships last year.
