ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Junior All-American Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) wasted little time punching her ticket to the NCAA II Outdoor Championships as she posted an automatic qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team to a seventh-place finish in its outdoor season-opener at the Washington University Invitational.
Ballinger finished second in the steeplechase, posting a time of 10 minutes, 49.07 seconds.
In all, the Screaming Eagles had seven competitors post top-five finishes, including three second-place performances, as they completed the two-day meet with 52 points.
In addition to Ballinger, junior All-American Christy Dixon
(Owensboro, Kentucky) was second in the 1,500 meters while senior Sarah Baysden
(Shelbyville, Indiana) was second in the 10,000 meters.
