Ballinger automatic in steeplechase,
Eagles seventh in outdoor opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Junior All-American Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) wasted little time punching her ticket to the NCAA II Outdoor Championships as she posted an automatic qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team to a seventh-place finish in its outdoor season-opener at the Washington University Invitational.

Ballinger finished second in the steeplechase, posting a time of 10 minutes, 49.07 seconds.
In all, the Screaming Eagles had seven competitors post top-five finishes, including three second-place performances, as they completed the two-day meet with 52 points.
In addition to Ballinger, junior All-American
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) was second in the 1,500 meters while senior
Sarah Baysden (Shelbyville, Indiana) was second in the 10,000 meters.
USI returns to action April 16-18 when it competes at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, and the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana. Only a small group of runners will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays.
