USI women’s cross country signs four
The University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country announces the signing of four runners for the 2002 season.
The Eagles signed Heather Cooksey, an All-State track performer from Brownsburg, Indiana. She finished fifth in the 1999 IHSAA state track meet with a 3200m personal best of 10:57.27. Cooksey also has a personal record of 14:34 for 4k.
From Warsaw, Indiana, Jennifer Finch has chosen USI to continue her track and cross country career. Finch finished fourth at the Manchester Semi-State and has a personal best of 14:38 on a 4k cross country course.
Signing from Garrett, Indiana, is Megan Hardenbrook. Hardenbrook is an all-state performer in both cross country and track, finishing third in 2000 at the IHSAA state track meet with a time of 5:03 in the 1600m run. She has a personal best of 14:21 on the 4k cross country course.
Rounding out the signers is Jessica Hein, an All-State track and cross country performer from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Hein, a senior at Carroll High School, holds the CHS record for the 4k cross country distance with a personal best 14:16. She finished 32nd in the state cross country meet in October.

“These young ladies all have their fair share of God-given talent, but more important they all seem to be instilled with a strong desire to do something with it. That is a big part of the reason they decided to come here—the opportunity to be challenged every day,” concluded Hillyard.
