USI women’s golf signs three
The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team announced the signing of Carly Ellard (Evansville, Indiana), Tara Ulmer (Bluffton, Indiana), and Amanda Zehner (Henderson, Kentucky) to a grant-and-aid for the 2002-03 season. The three are the first players Head Coach Don Bisesi has signed this spring.
Ellard comes to the Screaming Eagles from Mt. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, Indiana where she was the women’s golf team’s most valuable player. She is the recipient of the Academic Honors Diploma and the Young Indiana Heroes Award.
In addition to golf, Ellard was a four-year letter winner in softball and was MVHS’s offensive MVP as a junior. A four-year honor roll student at MVHS, Ellard was a student council member for four years, two of which she spent as the student council president.
Ulmer joins the USI squad after earning nine varsity letters in basketball, golf, and track at Norwell High School in Ossian, Indiana. She won the Junior Championship at the Parlor City Country Club and finished 10th at the Fremont Invitational.
A recipient of the Mental Attitude Award in 2000, Ulmer was a named honorable mention All-Northeast Hoosier Conference in 1999 and 2000. She was NHS’s top golfer for two seasons and the team’s MVP in 2001.
Like Ellard, Ulmer brings an impressive academic resume to the Eagles. Ulmer is a member of the National Honor Society, “Who’s Who Among American High School Students”, and the Spanish Club. She is a Rotary Award recipient and was awarded the Academic Honors Diploma.
Zehner played both golf and softball at Henderson County High School in Henderson, Kentucky. She finished second in the region back in October and was a member of the two-time regional championship team at HCHS.
Ellard, Ulmer, and Zehner will try to help Bisesi’s Eagles improve upon an eighth place showing at last season’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship team. USI finished second in the GLVC two seasons ago.
