USI women’s golf hosts Screaming Eagles Golf Classic
The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team had a split squad play this afternoon at the USI Screaming Eagles Women’s Golf Classic at Helfrich Hills Golf Course in Evansville, Indiana. USI’s top squad, the red squad, is in seventh place after day one while USI’s second squad, the blue squad, came in at 11th.
Freshman Amanda Zehner (Henderson, Kentucky) shot an 84, in the opening round of the two-day tournament, and came into the clubhouse tied for 16th. Zehner, along with junior Brandi Irvin (Benton, Illinois), led the red squad. Irvin followed Zehner with an 87 and is in a tie with fellow teammate Megan Kries (Lebanon, Illinois) for 26th.
Kries led the blue squad and recorded a career-best round with the 87.
Brescia University shot a 311 to take the lead after the first day while DePauw University’s Deborah Garriott led the field with a +1, 74.
The competitors, from 11 schools, will finish the tournament Monday morning with a shotgun start at Helfrich Hills Golf Course. The start is slated for 8:30 a.m.
