USI women’s golf places fifth at GLVC Championships,
Zehner earns GLVC “Freshman of the Year” honors
The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team finished fifth at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at the Piper Glen Golf Course in Springfield, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles shot a 371 on the first day and bettered that total by six strokes (365), in the final round, to come away with a two-day total of 736.
Freshman Amanda Zehner (Henderson, Kentucky) shot a final-round 84 and finished with a two-day total of 174 to finish tied for seventh. Her performance earned her GLVC “Freshman of the Year” honors. Zehner set USI’s single and two-round records earlier this season.
Junior Brandi Irvin (Benton, Illinois) finished in a tie for 10th after recording a two-day 179 (89, 90) while fellow classmate Jennifer Beaman (Evansville, Indiana) finished 18th with a two-day total of 185 (92, 93).
Northern Kentucky University took home the team championship while Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Kacy Gruenkemeyer won the individual championship
The Eagles will travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to compete at the Myrtle Beach Women’s Intercollegiate Sunday, October 13, through Tuesday, October 15. USI will complete its fall schedule with the Lady Grizzly Fall Invitational in Franklin, Indiana. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, October 21, through Tuesday, October 22.
