Zehner qualifies for NCAA II East Regional as an individual
University of Southern Indiana freshman Amanda Zehner (Henderson, Kentucky) capped off a GLVC Freshman of the Year season by qualifying for the NCAA Division II East Regional as an individual. Zehner was one of three individuals to qualify, joining Lynn Schlepphorst of Quincy University and Renee Hoskins, of Findlay University.
The 2003 East Regional, hosted by the University of Findlay, will be Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6-7, at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio. The top two individuals not with an advancing team will continue on to the NCAA Division II National Championship scheduled for May 14-17 at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills Florida.
The teams at the East Regional include Grand Valley State University Ferris State University Longwood University Northern Kentucky University the University of Indianapolis and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
In her first season with USI, Zehner tied the USI school record for a single round (75) twice set the school record for 36 holes (75-79—154) in her very first tournament and placed seventh at the GLVC Tournament last fall. She also led USI in seven of 10 tournaments and averaged 85.5 per round. Zehner is the first member of the USI women’s golf team to qualify for the national tournament.
