Eagles within stroke of championship
The 15th-ranked University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team shot a two-round 613 to finish second at the Northern Kentucky Invitational this weekend at the Perry Park Golf Course in Perry Park, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles were just one stroke off first place, which was won by NCAA Division III number one ranked DePauw University.
Eighteen teams competed in the two-day event including NCAA Division I schools Oakland University, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Dayton.
Sophomore Amanda Zehner (Henderson, Kentucky) recorded a two-round, school-record 149 after shooting a school-record tying 73 Saturday and a closing-round 76 Sunday. Zehner finished second, just one stroke behind Grand Valley State’s Melissa Sneller.
Freshman Megan Pendergraff (Henderson, Kentucky) also eclipsed the old school-record for a 36-hole score by shooting an opening-round 74 on Saturday and a 76 on Sunday. Pendergraff’s performance lifted her into a two-way tie for third.
