USI women’s golf seventh after final round of Cardinal Classic

MUNCIE, IN – The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf was seventh after the final round of the 36-hole Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State University at The Players Club in Muncie, Indiana.
USI remained seventh with a two-day total of 629 (316-313), but improved in the final round team by shooting a 313. The Screaming Eagles’ 629 was 48 strokes off the pace set tournament winner Western Michigan University. Western Michigan came back to earth Sunday afternoon, shooting a 296 and posted a team total of 581, just five strokes over par as a team.
USI was led by freshman Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana), who tied for 19th with a two-day 155 (76-79) after shooting a 79 in the final round. Junior Tara Ulmer (Bluffton, Indiana) had a team-best 76 on Sunday and tied for 35th with a two-day 159 (83-76). Sophomore Megan Pendergraff (Henderson, Kentucky) finished second on the team for the tournament by tying for 28th overall and shooting a 157 (75-82).
The Eagles resume action Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic held at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
