Eagles leading field with 307,
Luigs sets school/tournament record

EVANSVILLE, Ind.óThe University of Southern Indiana womenís golf team shot a 307 Sunday to open the Screaming Eaglesí Golf Classic at Helfrich Hills Golf Course. The Screaming Eagles, who were just one stroke off an 18-hole school record, are in first place and lead second-place Northern Kentucky University by five strokes heading into Mondayís final round.
USIís 307 is the best 18-hole performance by the womenís golf team at Helfrich Hills. The Eagles shot a 321 in the second round of last yearís tournament, marking the teamís previous best.
USI junior Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) shot a tournament and 18-hole school-record 71 to lead the field. Luigs finished with the 71 despite bogeying the last three holes and has a three-stroke lead over Rend Lake Community Collegeís Surita Risseeuw for first place.
Sophomore Megan Pendergraff (Henderson, Kentucky) and junior Tara Ulmer (Bluffton, Indiana) shot a 76 and 79, respectively. Pendergraff is in a tie for sixth place heading into the final round, while Ulmer is in a tie for 11th after the first 18 holes.
The closing round of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of the tournament.
