Record round puts Eagles into lead at GLVC Championship
Results
FORSYTH, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team shrugged off a 90-minute frost delay to shoot a school-record 300 Sunday in the first round of the GLVC Championships at the Hickory Point Golf Course to take a seven stroke lead into Monday’s final round.
The Screaming Eagles, who finished second at the GLVC Championships a year ago, are searching for their first conference title since the program’s inception in 1995.
Junior Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) is pacing the field for the second consecutive tournament after bettering her own school record, which she set last weekend at Helfrich Hills Golf Course, by shooting a 69 in the first round. Luigs, who is holding onto a four-stroke lead heading into the final round, shot a 71 to open the Screaming Eagles Golf Classic last weekend.
Fellow classmate Tara Ulmer (Bluffton, Illinois) shot a 75 in the opening round and is in third, while freshman Audrey Ramsey (Muncie, Indiana) shot a 77 and is in a tie for sixth heading into the final round.
The Eagles will wrap up the GLVC Championship and their fall season Monday.
