USI’s Luigs wins GLVC Championship,
Women’s golfers fall in tie-breaker
Final Results
FORSYTH, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana women’s golf junior Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) held off all challengers Monday to win the GLVC Championship at the Hickory Point Golf Course.
Luigs is the first golfer, male or female, to win the GLVC Championship. She shot a 77 in the final round to finish with a school-record 146, just two strokes over par and seven strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
With her finish, Luigs earned GLVC Player of the Year honors.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles were unable to hold onto their first-round lead as they fell into a tie with Northern Kentucky University for first place with a school-record tying team score of 613. USI shot a 300 on Sunday to open a seven stroke lead heading into the final round.
NKU, however, edged the Eagles in a playoff to win the team title. The Norse had three pars and a birdie to better USI’s four pars on the first hole.
Sophomore Megan Pendergraff (Henderson, Kentucky) shot a team-best 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for sixth with a two-round 155. Freshman Audrey Ramsey (Muncie, Indiana) finished eighth with a 156 (77, 79), while junior Tara Ulmer (Bluffton, Indiana) finished in a tie for ninth with a score of 157 (75, 82).
Freshman Chrissy Helms (Greenfield, Indiana) shot an 81 Monday to finish 20th with a score of 165.
The Eagles will resume their quest for a second straight NCAA II Tournament appearance when play resumes this spring. USI’s spring schedule is to be announced.
