USI women’s golf is third at Cougar Spring Invitational
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.–The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team finished the 2004-05 regular season with a third place finish in the Cougar Spring Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the Sunset Hills Golf Course in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles shot a two-day 715 (365-350).
Rend Lake Community College won the tournament with a two-day 682.
USI was led by junior Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana), who was second overall after losing a playoff with Rend Lake’s Surtia Risseeuw and shooting a two-day 167 (83-84). Freshman Audrey Ramsey (Muncie, Indiana) followed Luigs on the USI team, placing 10th with a 177 (92-85).
The Eagles are, currently, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II East Regional, behind top-ranked Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, and Northern Kentucky University. The last two spots in the regional are currently held by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Northwood University.
The top six teams in the region qualify for the NCAA II East Regional that will be hosted by GVSU at The Meadows in Allendale, Michigan. The tournament participants will announced officially on April 26. The top two teams in the regional and the top two individuals will advance the national championship tournament May 11-14 at The National Championship Course located on the University of New Mexico.
