USI women’s golf earns berth in NCAA II Tournament
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s golf team is advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight season. USI will play in the 36-hole East Regional at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, May 2-3.
The Screaming Eagles finished fourth a year ago, shooting a three-round 1003 (334 average).
The 2004-05 Eagles are led by junior Alisha Luigs (Mt. Vernon, Indiana). The 2004 GLVC individual champion posted a team-best 79.1 strokes per round (spr) this year, 77.3 spr during the fall season.
Luigs won the GLVC title last fall with a school record 146 over 36-holes, including a school record 69 in the first round. USI finished second in the GLVC last October with a school-record 36-hole score of 613 and a school-record round of 300.
Freshman Audrey Ramsey (Muncie, Indiana) follows Luigs with a first-year 82.1 spr, shooting 79.5 spr during the fall.
The tournament field includes Ferris State University host Grand Valley State University Northern Kentucky University USI, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and Northwood University. Individuals advancing to the regional were Andrea Davis and Jenna Brown of the University of Indianapolis and Katie Weisenburger of the University of Findlay.
In order to be considered for selection to the national championships, teams and individuals must have played a minimum of 15 18-hole rounds including a minimum of four rounds in the spring.
The top two teams from each of the four regionals advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships to be held at The Championship Course at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, May 11-14. The national championships are hosted by Western New Mexico University.
