Eagles sixth after opening round at NCAA II East Regional

ALLENDALE, Mich.—The No. 23 University of Southern Indiana women's golf team opened the NCAA II East Region Tournament Monday by shooting a 338 at The Meadows-Championship Tees Golf Course.
USI's score puts the Screaming Eagles in sixth-place—nine strokes back of the University of Indianapolis and California University of Pennsylvania for fourth place and 10 strokes back of Northern Kentucky University for third place—heading into Tuesday's second round. Grand Valley State University leads the field after shooting a 312 Monday, while Ferris State University is in second with a 317.
Junior Tara Wiley (Oxford, Indiana) and sophomore Kimberly Gottwald (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) led the Eagles with 10-over-par 82s, putting them in a tie for 16th in the 33-player field.
The NCAA II East Region Tournament resumes Tuesday, with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.
