Eagles finish seventh in season-opener

HOLLISTER, Mo.—The No. 24-ranked University of Southern Indiana women's golf team finished seventh at the season-opening Drury University Fall Shootout at John Daly's Murder Rock Golf and Country Club.
Junior Angela Dehning (Hazel Crest, Illinois) led the Screaming Eagles with a two-round score of 157 after shooting an even-par 72 to go into the clubhouse with a share of the lead in Monday's opening round. Dehning, who closed the tournament with an 85, finished in a tie for 11th.
Junior Kimberly Gottwald (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) shot a team-best 78 Tuesday to close the two-day tournament with a 161 and finish in a tie for 21st.
As a team, the Eagles shot 327 Tuesday after opening the tournament with a 322 Monday. The 649 was just four strokes behind GLVC rival and tournament host Drury, which finished fifth.
California University-Pennsylvania won the team title after shooting 300 Tuesday and finishing with a two-day score of 615, while the University of Nebraska-Omaha's Erin Ommen shot 72 and 74 to claim the individual crown.
The Eagles return to action when they host the annual Ray Wright/Screaming Eagles Golf Classic September 21-22 at Cambridge Golf Course, located south of the Hwy. 41 and I-64 intersection.
