MADISON, Ill.—Three University of Southern Indiana women's golfers finished in the top four of the Triton & Bear Invitational Tuesday as the No. 25-ranked Screaming Eagles captured the team title with a 36-hole school record 609.
The Eagles also broke their 18-hole team record when they shot 295 in the opening round Monday. The previous 18-hole (300) and 36-hole (613) records were set at the 2004 GLVC Tournament.
Individually, senior Tara Wiley
(Oxford, Indiana) was the tournament medalist after shooting a two-over-par 73 in Monday's opening round and a 76 in the final round on Tuesday. It marked the second time in Wiley's collegiate career that she has won a tournament—she also won the 2007 Ray Wright/Screaming Eagles Classic.
Joining Wiley in the top five were juniors Angela Dehning
(Hazel Crest, Illinois) and Jessica Dooley
(Goshen, Indiana), who each tied for third with scores of 151. Dooley shot 73 Monday and 78 Tuesday, while Dehning shot 75 and 76 to match Dooley's two-day score.
Junior Kimberly Gottwald
(Ft. Wayne, Indiana) rounded out the Eagles' top 15 performers after shooting 74 Monday and 84 Tuesday to finish with a two-day 158.
The Eagles, who recorded their third first-place finish since 2007, wrap up their fall schedule October 12-14 when they compete at the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
