Eagles finish eighth at rain-shortened NKU Invitational

PERRY PARK, Ky.—Four University of Southern Indiana women's golfers shot 79 in the opening round Saturday to lead the Screaming Eagles to an eighth-place finish at the Northern Kentucky University Spring Invitational this weekend. USI shot a 317 Saturday before seeing Sunday's final round get washed out.
The University of Indianapolis won the tournament with a 12-over-par 300, while host Northern Kentucky shot 314 to finish sixth in the 20-team field.
Juniors Angela Dehning (Hazel Crest, Illinois), Jessica Dooley (Goshen, Indiana), and Kim Gottwald (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) each finished six strokes back of the first-place score of 73, reached by six different players. Freshman Lindsey Carr (Frankfort, Illinois) also shot a seven-over-par 79 competing as an individual as she joined her teammates in a tie for 34th in the 116-player field.
Senior Tara Wiley (Oxford, Indiana) shot an 80 to finish in a tie for 45th, while freshman Kristina Mitchell (Indianapolis, Indiana) rounded out the Eagles' performers with an 81, putting her in a tie for 49th.
USI returns to action Monday when it competes at the Bellarmine University Invitational at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky.
