Women's golf earns berth in NCAA II Tournament
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's golf team earned a berth in the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament. The East Regional, which is scheduled for May 3-5, will be played at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and is hosted by California University of Pennsylvania.
The top three teams and the top three individuals from a team not advancing go on to play in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship May 13-16 at the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
In addition to USI, the East Regional includes Grand Valley State University, the University of Indianapolis, Ferris State University, California (Pa.), Ashland, Drury, Northern Kentucky University, and the University of Findlay.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a third-place finish at the GLVC Championships where junior Jessica Dooley (Goshen, Indiana) was named All-GLVC after tying for third with a two-round 161 (81-80). Dooley leads the team in 2008-09 with a 79.4 average in nine tournaments and 15 rounds.
Following Dooley on the team is senior Tara Wiley (Oxford, Indiana), who will be making her school-record fourth appearance in a NCAA II regional. Wiley had an 81.3 average in 10 tournaments and 18 rounds this season.
Third on the team is junior Angela Dehning (Hazel Crest, Illinois), who is averaging 81.7 shots per round, while junior Kim Gottwald (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) and freshman Lindsey Carr (Frankfort, Illinois) round out the Eagles' top five with 82.3 and 87.1 averages, respectively.
USI will be making its fifth trip in the last six years to the regional under USI Head Coach Don Bisesi, who is in his ninth season at the helm of the Eagles.
