USI soccer team opens the GLVC schedule on the road
The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team will open the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this week, beginning at Northern Kentucky University Friday, September 20. The women’s contest will begin at 7 p.m. (CT)
The Screaming Eagles' contest on Friday will feature USI against the number-one ranked Norse of NKU. NKU is 6-0-0 overall in 2002 and are coming off a 1-0 victory over Christian Brothers University, which was ranked number-one last week.
USI will be trying to get back on track after falling twice over the weekend. The Eagles, who had started the year 4-0, lost to 16th-ranked Mercyhurst College, 4-0, and to Wheeling Jesuit University, 3-1.
To combat the Norse, USI is led by freshman forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana), who has four goals in six matches and ranks 10th in the GLVC in scoring. She is followed in the scoring column by junior Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas), who has two goals and an assist.
NKU is led by senior forward/midfielder Stephanie Sandfoss, who has 11 points on three goals and five assists. Sandfoss, who had an assist in the NKU victory over USI last year, ranks sixth in the GLVC in scoring.
Between the posts for the Norse is junior goalkeeper Megan Zalla. Zalla has a 0.46 GAA in six games, good enough for second in the GLVC.
The Eagles will finish the road trip on Sunday, September 22, at Bellarmine University. Match time on Sunday is 1:30 p.m.(CT).
