Will USI and Kentucky Wesleyan get to play soccer this week?
Last year Mother Nature said “no way” on two different occasions when the University of Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan College were scheduled to play soccer. Will they get to play this year?
The Screaming Eagles are scheduled to host the Panthers in a men’s and women’s doubleheader Friday, September 27, at Strassweg Field. Match times are 5 p.m. for the men’s game and 7:30 p.m. for the women’s contest. The weather forecast this time calls for showers all day on Friday.
In the nightcap of the soccer doubleheader, the USI women’s soccer team is hoping to snap a four-match losing streak. The Screaming Eagles started the year with four straight wins, but have fallen on tough times in the last four matches, including two GLVC contests.
Last weekend, the Eagles stumbled against #1 Northern Kentucky University, 3-1, and at Bellarmine, 1-0.
KWC’s women’s program is on the opposite side of the spectrum from it men’s team by starting the year 4-0-0. The Panthers have yet to play a match in the GLVC after their match with Bellarmine was washed out in Friday’s rains.
The Eagles will be trying to keep their record perfect against the Panthers. USI leads the women’s series, 5-0-0.
