The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team could not overcome a first half goal by Quincy University, falling 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI’s record goes 5-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Quincy is 8-3-0 overall, 5-1-0 GLVC.
In the rainy first half, Quincy’s freshman forward Julie Harris came off the bench to score the matches only goal at 19:51. This was the only shot to get by senior goalkeeper Aude de La Salle (France), who posted six saves in the game.
The second half saw weather conditions improve, but both teams were hampered by the muddy conditions. Each team had 12 shots, but Quincy had the edge in corner kicks, 4-1.
The Screaming Eagles will resume action Wednesday, October 9, in a non-conference home match with Brescia University. Match time is 7 p.m. USI continues GLVC play at Strassweg Field Sunday, October 13, when Southern Illinois University Edwardsville comes to Evansville for a 2:30 p.m. contest.
