USI women’s soccer releases 2003 schedule
The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team will kick-off the 2003 season with a road trip over the Labor Day weekend. The women’s squad starts play with Wheeling Jesuit University in the first round of the Wheeling Jesuit Classic, August 29.
In addition to Wheeling Jesuit, the USI women’s team will play Concord College at WJU, August 31, during the opening the weekend. The Screaming Eagles will open the 2003 home schedule when they host McKendree College on September 2.
“I am very excited to begin my first season at USI,” said women’s head coach Krissy Meek. “We have a very competitive schedule and I’m anxious to get started.
“Our first two games are in West Virginia against two of the best teams in the region,” continued Meek. “Then, two weeks later, we travel to Memphis and compete against Christian Brothers University, the defending national champions.”
In addition to Christian Brothers on September 13, the Eagles will host NCAA Division II Tournament performer and defending Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Northern Kentucky University on October 5. “Last year, NKU was the best team in the Great Lakes Region and the GLVC,” said Meek. “This year we feel that we have taken the necessary steps to be competitive.”
The first goal of the USI women’s team is to get back over the .500 mark for the year. The Eagles were 61-30-4 (.663) in the first five years of the program, while posting a 12-22-0 (.353) mark the last two seasons.
Both USI men's and women's soccer teams begin GLVC action on September 19 when the University of Wisconsin-Parkside visits Strassweg Field for a men’s and women’s doubleheader.
