USI womenís soccer takes record to 2-0

University of Southern Indiana (2-0-0): 4
Davis & Elkins College (0-2-0): 0

The University of Southern Indiana womenís soccer team has started 2003 off with a bang, raising its record to 2-0 overall after a 4-0 victory over Davis & Elkins College in Wheeling, West Virginia, Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles have started the season with a 2-0 record in five times since the program was begun in 1996.

USI took control of the game early, building a 3-0 lead by halftime. Junior back Lisa Stucki (Evansville, Indiana) gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead on her first goal of the season off an assist by sophomore forward Brooklyn Wilke (Evansville, Indiana) just five minutes into the game.

The Eagles continued to build the lead with sophomore forward Alisann Shetlerís (Evansville, Indiana) second goal of the year, and Wilkeís first of the season. Shetler was assisted on her goal by freshman midfielder Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana), while Wilke scored off a pass from senior forward Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas).

Earle-Smith capped off the scoring in the second half with her third goal in two matches. She scored USIís fourth goal of the day off a combination of passes from sophomore midfielder Brianna Farinelli (Lexington, Kentucky) and freshman midfielder Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana).

With eight points on three goals and two assists this weekend, Earle-Smith moved into third all-time at USI with 42 career-points, passing former Eagles Laura Preske, Kristi Weber, and Jessica Pigman. Earle-Smithís three goals brought her career total to 15, also tying her for third all-time at USI .

The Eagles will open the 2003 home scheduled Tuesday, September 2, at Strassweg Field when they play McKendree College at 5 p.m. This match will be the first half of doubleheader due to the USI menís match with McKendree being rescheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on Strassweg Field.

The USI menís match with McKendree was postponed on Sunday due to rain and poor field conditions.
