USI women’s soccer to make second try at opening the 2003 home schedule
The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team will make its second attempt to open the 2003 home schedule when it hosts Northern Michigan University Saturday, September 6, at noon. The USI-McKendree College match, which was postponed due to weather, has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, at Strassweg Field.
The Eagles are coming off an incredible opening weekend, posting victories over 16th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit University, 3-2, and over Davis & Elkins College, 4-0. Senior forward Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas) led the way for the Ealges with three goals and two assists, including the game winner over WJU.
The hot foot for the opening weekend also propelled Earle-Smith into the top five in three different all-time scoring categories at USI. She currently ranks third all-time with 42 career points and 15 career goals and fourth all-time with 12 career assists.
Northern Michigan comes to Strassweg Field with a 2-1-0 overall record. The Wildcats opened 2003 with a 1-0 forfeit victory over Finlandia University, but lost 2-0 to the University of Minnesota-Crookston before defeating the University of Minnesota-Morehead last weekend.
NMU leads the series with USI, 1-0-0, after winning the only meeting between the two institutions, 2-1, in 2001 at Strassweg Field.
