USI women’s soccer drops fourth straight
Northern Kentucky University (9-2-1, 5-0-0 GLVC): 2
@University of Southern Indiana (4-7-0, 1-5-0 GLVC): 1
The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team dropped its fourth straight match Sunday afternoon as defending GLVC champion Northern Kentucky University defeated the Screaming Eagles 2-1 at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana.
USI (4-7-0, 1-5-0 GLVC) gave up a goal 31 minutes into the match but came back in the second half to tie the contest at 1-1 when freshman midfielder Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana) set up fellow classmate Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana) for her first collegiate goal.
However, NKU (9-2-1, 5-0-0 GLVC) recaptured the lead with four minutes to go in the match when Laurel Chalk scored off a pass by Katie Hanck. It was Chalk’s second game-winning goal of the season.
Offensively, the Eagles were held to just five shots, three of which were on goal. USI freshman goalkeeper Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) faced 13 NKU shots and recorded nine saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Eagles will return to action Friday, October 10, when they host West Virginia Wesleyan College in a 7:30 p.m. match at Strassweg Field. USI returns to GLVC play next Sunday, October 12, when it travels to Owensboro, Kentucky, to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College.
