#10 Grand Valley State 4, USI 0
ALLENDALE, Mich.—Three first-half goals spelled doom for the University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team Sunday as it fell to #10-ranked Grand Valley State University, 4-0.
The Lakers opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game when GVSU’s Jenny Swalec used a feed from Shannon Carrier to get one by USI freshman goalkeeper Megan Homolla (Portage, Indiana).
GVSU added goals in the 22nd and 45th minutes of the first period, before capping the scoring off with a goal in the 55th minute of the contest.
The Lakers out-shot the Screaming Eagles 29-13 and had 16 shots on goal, 12 of which Homolla was able to keep from finding the back of the net. The Eagles were able to get seven shots on goal, but could not get one by GVSU goalkeeper Erin Murphy.
USI, which falls to 0-2 with the loss, will try for its first victory of the season a week from today when it entertains Wheeling Jesuit University in its home-opener at Strassweg Field.
