USI women’s soccer returns to the road this weekend
The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team returns to the road this weekend, playing at McKendree College Friday at 4 p.m. in Lebanon, Illinois, and Missouri Baptist College Saturday at 7 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off their first victory of the year and have a 1-3-0 overall record in 2004. USI needed double-overtime to defeat Tiffin University Tuesday afternoon, 1-0, on freshman midfielder Katie Barisano’s (Newburgh, Indiana) first collegiate goal.
USI, which lost to Wheeling Jesuit University Sunday afternoon, 3-2, in double-overtime, has played in back-to-back overtime games four times since the program began in 1996.
The Eagles are led in scoring after four matches by junior forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana), who had a pair of goals in the loss to WJU. Freshman forward Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) leads USI between the posts with a 2.05 goals against average.
McKendree has started the 2004 campaign with a 1-0-1 record after tying St. Ambrose University, 1-1, and defeating Avila University, 7-0, in the St. Ambrose Tournament. The Bearcats host Lindenwood University tonight prior to hosting USI on Friday.
USI leads the all-time series with McKendree, 3-2. The Eagles won the first three meetings with the Bearcats, but have lost the last two.
Missouri Baptist enters the week with a 2-0-1 record and will play Avila University tonight prior to playing USI at the Anheuser Bush Soccer Park in St. Louis on Saturday. The Spartans were 1-0-1 last weekend on the road, defeating Spring Hill College, 3-1, and tying the University of Mobile, 0-0.
USI leads the all-time series with Missouri Baptist, 2-0-0, after a 1-0 home victory in 2002 and a 5-4 road victory in 2003.
