USI women’s soccer goes on the road in the conference

The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team goes on the road this week in the GLVC, visiting Northern Kentucky University Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and Bellarmine University Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CT).

USI (2-8-0 overall, 1-2-0 GLVC) moved out of the league’s basement to seventh with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan College last Friday. The Screaming Eagles were 2-0 for the first time this season, adding a 1-0 victory over the University of Findlay on Sunday.

Leading the way for the Eagles is junior midfielder Brooklyn Gant (Evansville, Indiana), who has at team-best nine points on three goals and three assists. Junior forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) follows Gant in the scoring column with four points on two goals.

NKU (6-3-0, 3-1-0 GLVC) enters this weekend’s action in third place in the GLVC after splitting its last two league matches. The Norse defeated Quincy University, 1-0, in double-overtime last Friday, but lost at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 2-0, last Sunday.

NKU leads the all-time series, 6-3-0, and has won the last four meetings. The Norse won last year at Strassweg Field, 2-1.

Bellarmine (6-4-0, 2-2-0 GLVC) starts the weekend by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon. The Lady Knights also split their GLVC matches on the road last week, falling 2-1 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and winning 1-0 in overtime at Quincy.

The Eagles lead the all-time series, 5-3-0, but Bellarmine has won the last two meetings. The Lady Knights defeated USI at Strassweg Field, 1-0, last year.

USI concludes the GLVC home schedule next weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph’s College on October 8 and the University of Indianapolis on October 10 for Senior Day.
