USI womenís soccer stumbles at GVSU, 5-0

ALLENDALE, Mich. Ė The University of Southern Indiana womenís soccer team lost to Grand Valley State University, 5-0, Sunday afternoon in the Grand Valley State Tournament in Allendale, Michigan. USI falls to 1-1-0 overall, while GVSU, which was an NCAA Division II Tournament team a year ago, raises to 2-0-0.
The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and put three more into the back of the net in the second half for the 5-0 final. GVSU out shot the Screaming Eagles 22-11. Of USIís 11 shots, seven were on goal, but none could find the back of the net.
The Eagles will open the 2005 home schedule at Strassweg Field by hosting Ashland University for a menís and womenís doubleheader. The womenís match will kick-off at noon.
