USI women’s soccer loses GLVC opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team opened the GLVC season with a loss at Bellarmine University, 3-1, Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI, which has lost three straight, falls to 1-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 2-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 GLVC.
The Knights drew first blood 3:57 into the match on a goal by back Sara Goblirsch. The game-winner came just before halftime when midfielder Daniell Polce scored at the 41:11 mark and sent the game into the intermission with USI down 2-0.
Bellarmine increased its lead 10 minutes into the second to 3-0.
The Screaming Eagles cut the lead to the 3-1 final on a goal senior forward Brooklyn Gant (Indianapolis, Indiana) with 1:50 to play. Sophomore back Jessica Stawick(Indianapolis, Indiana) assisted on the goal, which was Gant's first of the year.
USI will try to get back on track in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Sunday when the squad plays at Northern Kentucky University. Game time is 11 a.m. (CDT).
