USI women's soccer signs two local players
EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team announced the addition of forward Julie Vaughan and defender Katie Austin to the team for the 2006 season. Vaughan and Austin are the seventh and eighth players to commit to USI and Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht.
Vaughan, who signed a national letter of intent, is a senior three-sport letterwinner at Central High School (Evansville, Indiana). She was a 2004 honorable mention All-City and second team All-District performer, while helping the Bears to the 2004 and 2005 SIAC, sectional, regional, and semi-state soccer championships. Vaughan also was a member of the Evansville Elite Soccer Club that reached the State Cup finals in 2002 and 2003.
Austin, who will be a walk-on this fall, is a four-year member of the Reitz High School (Evansville, Indiana) girls soccer team. She was named Academic All-City and honorable mention All-State in 2005. Austin appeared in the College Showcase Soccer Tournament the last two years with the Lady Blitz 87 Select Soccer Team.
"Vaughan and Austin are great additions to this talented incoming class," said Engelbrecht. "Vaughan brings us an athletic goal scorer, while Austin brings a strong, solid defender."
Vaughan and Austin join six other newcomers for 2006. Committing to USI for next fall are defenders Jenna Keusch (Jasper, Indiana) and Jaclyn Clements (Crown Point, Indiana) midfielders Shauni Boudia (Noblesville, Indiana) and Katie Teagarden (Speedway, Indiana) forward Kara Georgeff (Highland, Indiana) and utility player Alison Conquest (Merrillville, Indiana).
Boudia is a two-time Indiana All-State performer, earning first team honors in 2005, while Keusch was honorable mention All-State this past fall.
