USI women's soccer has 2006 debut at Strassweg Field Friday
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team opens the 2006 home schedule when it hosts Drury University Friday at 7:30 p.m. and begins a four-match homestand at Strassweg Field. USI concludes the first half of the homestand Sunday when it hosts Rockhurst University for a 2:30 p.m. match.
The Screaming Eagles (1-3-0, 1-1-0 GLVC) are coming off a split in the first weekend of GLVC action. The Eagles started conference play with a 1-0 overtime victory at Lewis University, but dropped a 2-0 decision at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Senior defender Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana) scored the game-winner at Lewis with her first goal of the year.
Drury (2-1-1, 0-0-0 GLVC) begins GLVC action this weekend after recording a pair of wins and a tie in its first four matches. The Panthers earned a split in its home tournament last weekend, defeating Northwood University, 2-0, and losing to the University of Central Oklahoma, 2-0.
USI lost its first match against Drury last year, 3-1, in Springfield, Missouri.
Rockhurst (1-2-0, 0-0-0 GLVC), which starts this week's games on Wednesday by hosting Washburn University, also begins GLVC play this week. The Hawks travel to Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday prior to coming to Strassweg Field. Rockhurst, like USI, split a pair of matches last weekend, defeating Gannon, 2-0, and losing to Mercyhurst, 2-0.
The Hawks defeated the Eagles twice last year in Kansas City, Missouri, winning 3-1 in the regular season and 1-0 in the GLVC Tournament.
