USI closes out season against GLVC foes
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team closes the 2006 campaign by hosting a pair of GLVC foes at Strassweg Field. The final weekend starts against Northern Kentucky University Friday at 7:30 p.m. and concludes against Bellarmine University Sunday at noon.
The USI-Bellarmine match-up is Senior Day for the Eagles. Three seniors – Megan Williams (Mt. Vernon, Indiana), Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana), and Rebecca Cripe (Argos, Indiana) – will be honored prior to the match.
The Screaming Eagles (4-11-0, 2-8-0 GLVC) are looking to send the 2006 campaign out on a good note and break a four-match losing streak. USI suffered a heart-breaking loss in its last match in overtime at the University of Missouri-Rolla.
NKU (10-4-0, 7-4-0 GLVC) got back on track last weekend with a pair of wins after losing two straight for the only time this year. The Norse shutout Rockhurst University and Drury University last weekend.
The Eagles have not defeated the Norse since 1999 when they won at Strassweg Field, 2-0, and trail the all-time series, 8-3-0.
Bellarmine (10-4-0, 8-3-0 GLVC), who plays at Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday afternoon prior to coming to Evansville, is on a three-match winning streak. The Knights started this week's action with a 5-0 shutout of Oakland City University.
USI leads the all-time series with Bellarmine, 6-4-0, but lost last year's match, 3-1, in Louisville.
