USI women's soccer opens home schedule looking for a win
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team is looking for its first win of the year when it begins the home half of the 2007 schedule. The Screaming Eagles begin a five-match homestand this week when they host GLVC matches against Saint Joseph's College Friday and the University of Indianapolis Sunday.
Match times are 5 p.m. Friday and noon Sunday.
The Eagles (0-4-0, 0-2-0 GLVC) have suffered from a lack of offensive output to start the year. USI has lost its last three matches by one goal, losing to Western Illinois University, 2-1 Quincy University, 1-0 and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 1-0. The loss to SIUE was especially tough with the winning goal coming in the final 75 seconds.
The Pumas of Saint Joseph's (3-1-0, 1-0-0 GLVC) come to Strassweg Field fresh from a 1-0 victory over UIndy on Tuesday. Saint Joseph's has won its last two and started the 2007 campaign by winning three of four.
USI trails Saint Joseph's in the all-time series, 9-5-0, after losing to the Pumas, 2-1, last season in Rensselaer, Indiana.
The Greyhounds of UIndy (2-4-0, 0-1-0 GLVC), who play at Kentucky Welseyan College on Friday before coming to Evansville, head south to try and put the loss to Saint Joseph's behind them. UIndy has split its last four matches after starting the year with back-to-back losses.
The all-time series between USI and UIndy is tied 6-6-0 after the Greyhounds won last year's match, 1-0, in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI has won two of the last three meetings with UIndy.
