USI women's soccer to host top-ranked GVSU
Kick-off Saturday at 1 p.m.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the third time in the history of the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer program, the Screaming Eagles will play the number one ranked team in the NCAA Division II when they host Grand Valley State University Saturday at Strassweg Field. Match time Saturday is 1 p.m.
The Eagles are 0-2-0 against top-ranked teams, losing to Northern Kentucky University, 3-0, in 2001 and to Christian Brothers University, 8-0, in 2003.
USI (2-4-1) has been playing well, going 2-0-1 in the last three matches. The Eagles have seven goals in the last three matches after scoring only two goals in their 0-4-0 start.
Leading the USI offensive surge is sophomore midfielder Shauni Boudia (Noblesville, Indiana), who has six points on two goals and two assists in the last three matches. The six points also is the USI team-high for the season.
Boudia is followed by senior forward Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana), who has four points on a pair of goals.
GVSU (6-0-0), which was the NCAA II Tournament finalist a year ago, has had 10 days off since defeating Lewis University, 5-0, at home on September 12. GVSU junior forward Katy Tafler, who has 19 points in six games on eight goals and three assists, leads the Laker attack that is averaging over three goals a game.
