USI women's soccer ends road woes at KWC

OWENSBORO, Ky. — The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team ended its road losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Wednesday evening in Owensboro, Kentucky. USI raised its record to 4-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the GLVC, while KWC falls to 3-11-0, 0-7-0 GLVC.

The victory was the first USI road win of the year and broke an 11-match road losing streak that dated back to September of last season.

The Screaming Eagles got on the scoreboard first when sophomore forward Julie Vaughan (Evansville, Indiana) gave USI the 1-0 lead at 19:16. Vaughan was assisted on her second goal of the year by senior forward Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana).

The Panther tied the score 1-1 when sophomore forward Nora Karvonen scored at 23:00.

USI senior forward Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) put the Eagles back on top, 2-1, in the second half with her third goal of the year at 60:37. She was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Rachel Caksackkar (Paducah, Kentucky).

The Eagles added a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes to seal the victory. USI sophomore midfielder Shauni Boudia (Noblesville, Indiana) gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead with her team-best fourth goal of the year, while freshman midfielder Casey Bryan (Portage, Indiana) finished the scoring with her second goal of the season for the 4-1 final.

USI junior midfielder Serena Lowenthal (Bloomington, Indiana) was credited with an assist on Bryan's goal.

The Eagles dominated the game with an 18-9 lead in shots, 13-1 in shots-on-goal. USI also had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-1.

USI will attempt to stay on track when it starts a two-game homestand this weekend at Strassweg Field. The Eagles are hosting the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday at 5 p.m. and Lewis University Sunday at noon.
