USI loses to Indiana State, 2-1, in exhibition

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost a hard-fought exhibition game to Indiana State University, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
The Sycamores jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first half when forward Amanda Gogel scored at the 8:15 mark. The Screaming Eagles would bounce back to tie the score, 1-1, before the end of the half on a goal at 31:55 by junior forward Rachel Caksackkar (Paducah, Kentucky).
Caksackkar was assisted on the play by freshman forward Nancy Newcomer (Parma Heights, Ohio).
In the second half, USI and Indiana State battled up-and-down the field until the Sycamores regained the lead for the final time, 2-1, on the game winning goal at 80:39. ISU forward Jessica Rosenberg scored the go-ahead goal by stealing the ball from the USI defense and shooting it over USI sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Lemp (Osceola, Indiana) for the unassisted tally.
The Eagles open the 2008 regular season for real on August 29 at Ferris State University and open the home schedule on September 5 against Urbana University.
