USI starts GLVC action on sour note
Eagles stumble on the road, 2-1

-- The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team started GLVC action on a sour note, falling to Missouri University of Science & Technology, 2-1, Friday evening in Rolla, Missouri. USI falls to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T goes to 3-1-0, 1-0-0 GLVC.
Missouri S&T took an early 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Melissa Young scored at the 5:45 mark of the first half. The Miners would make that 1-0 lead stand-up until the intermission.
USI tied the score at 1-1 shortly after halftime when junior midfielder Kara Georgeff
(Highland, Indiana) recorded her second goal of the season. Georgeff headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Shauni Boudia
The Miners would regain control of the match in the final five minutes. Missouri S&T junior forward Brooke Ryan scored the game-winner at the 85:34 from 21 yards out. The Eagles had a pair of shots in the final minutes, but was not able to find the back of the net.
Overall, Missouri S&T out shot USI, 16-11, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3.
The Eagles conclude the two-match conference road swing at noon Sunday when they travel to Springfield, Missouri, to play Drury University. Drury raised its record to 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC after posting a 1-0 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Friday.
