USI scares 24th-ranked NKU, but falls 3-2

-- The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team stayed with 24th-ranked Northern Kentucky University for 90 minutes, but lost a 3-2 decision Sunday afternoon in Wilder, Kentucky. USI falls to 4-9-0 overall and 1-7-0 in the GLVC, while NKU goes to 10-2-0 overall, 6-2-0 GLVC.
After the Norse posted a 1-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the match, NKU controlled the match until USI freshman forward Meagan Kempf
(Evansville, Indiana) evened the score, 1-1, with the first of her two goals at 77:02. Kempf lobbed the ball in from 15 yards for her seventh of the year.
NKU regained command of match and posted a 3-1 lead with just under 10 minutes to play. The Norse took the led for good at 84:34 on a goal by sophomore forward Kara Costello and sealed the win on a goal at 87:40 by senior forward Lauren Franzen. Franzen also had NKU's first goal of the match.
Kempf tried to pull the Eagles back into the match at 88:29 with her second goal of the day to make the score 3-2. Kempf's goal was her eighth of the year and was assisted by junior midfielder Katie Teagarden
(Speedway, Indiana). The goal also was USI's last shot of the match.
Overall, NKU out shot USI, 15-10, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-2.
USI resumes action Friday when the Eagles start the final two-match homestand of the regular season by hosting the University of Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles conclude the 2008 home schedule with Senior Day on October 19 when they host Saint Joseph's College at 2:30 p.m.
