USI women's soccer gets six new players

EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team announced the addition of six new players for the 2009 season. The signings are the first of the year for the Screaming Eagles and Head Coach Krissy Engelbrecht.

Signing national letters of intent are defenders Jessica Gates, Taylor Lannert, and Paige Nuelle; and forward Cheyenne Bracken. Committing to USI, but not signing national letters of intent, are defenders Amanda Barch and Morgyn Graber.

Gates, a native of Crown Point, Indiana, is a 2008 third team All-State performer from Lake Central High School (St. John, Indiana). She also was a the LCHS Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2007 and 2008, while earning All-Duneland Athletic Conference and first team All-District honors the last two seasons.

LCHS and Gates combined to win three Duneland Athletic Conference championships as well as four sectional and regional crowns. LCHS advanced to the Indiana elite eight the last two seasons, while producing a semi-state championship in 2005.

Gates also participated in the Northwest Indiana Unite Futbol Club and the Indiana Magic select teams.

Lannert will stay on the west side of Evansville and play for the Eagles following four years at Mater Dei High School (Evansville, Indiana). She was a 2008 second team All-City and All-District performer as well as earning 2007 honorable mention All-City honors, while helping MDHS to the 2007 sectional and regional championships.

Nuelle, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, comes to USI after winning three letters in basketball and soccer at Kirkwood High School (St. Louis, Missouri). The 2008 first team All-Conference performer helped KHS to a Missouri state championship in 2006 and to three straight Midwest Regional League titles.

Bracken, a native Indianapolis, Indiana, joins the Eagles following four seasons on the Warren Central High School soccer team. She was second team All-State last fall in addition to being named Indianapolis Star All-County. Bracken was named first team All-State, All-County, All-Conference, and All-District in 2007.

In select soccer, Bracken was a member of the Dynamo '91 in 2008.

Barch, a native of Grove City, Ohio, joins the USI squad after lettering in soccer and basketball at Bishop Ready High School (Columbus, Ohio). She was the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year and the 2007 BRHS Most Valuable Player. Barch also started every game of her four seasons at BRHS.

Graber comes to the women's soccer program after lettering in soccer at Portage High School (Portage, Indiana). She was Academic All-State in 2008 and was the PHS Scholar Athlete Award winner in 2008 and 2009.

PHS and Graber combined to win the Indiana sectional, regional, and semi-state championships in 2006 and the Duneland Athletic Conference championship in 2007.

Graber also played for the MSA Mystique Premier Soccer Team in 2005-06 and the Indiana Magic since 2007.
